For several years, Adrian Wojnarowski was considered arguably the prominent breaking news reporter in the NBA, and his “Woj bombs” became something that fans always looked forward to or even hoped for.
But days ago, he stunningly announced he was leaving journalism to become the general manager of St. Bonaventure University’s men’s basketball team.
Shams Charania, who was Wojnarowski’s main competitor when it came to breaking news reports, routinely makes appearances on multiple media outlets, and now, two huge outlets have shown interest in hiring him — NBC Sports and Amazon Prime Video, per Michael McCarthy.
NEWS: Not so fast ESPN.
NBC Sports and Amazon Prime Video are both interested in free agent hoops Insider Shams Charania as they ramp up to cover the NBA starting with the 2025-2026 season.

After this coming season, the NBA will begin a new media coverage contract, with NBC set to air games for the first time since 2002 and Amazon Prime slated to also have some national coverage as well.
Charania, an Illinois native, started out with Yahoo several years ago with Wojnarowski’s help, and since 2018, he has been writing for The Athletic.
Millions of fans rely on him for the latest breaking news when it comes to transactions, just as they did with Wojnarowski, and the two developed something of a rivalry with each other in which they competed to report breaking news before the other did.
The sports media landscape has been changing greatly, with the NFL and now the NBA starting to embrace streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime as more and more people “cut the cord” and cancel their cable or satellite subscriptions.
