After bouncing around the NBA over the last few years, veteran point guard Derrick Rose seems to have gotten tired of the grind of an 82-game season on the professional level while also constantly battling nagging injuries every year and has decided to retire.
During his NBA playing career, which spanned over 16 seasons, Rose played for six different teams in the league, from bursting on the scene with the Chicago Bulls in 2008 to stints with the New York Knicks (twice), Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies.
Although Rose played for many different teams during his NBA career, the Chicago native made his biggest impact with the Bulls. He became the youngest player in league history to win NBA MVP.
Unfortunately for Rose, the point guard’s rise to superstardom was cut short after suffering a torn ACL after four incredible seasons with the Bulls, revitalizing the once-proud and successful franchise that won six NBA titles with Michael Jordan leading the way.
Rose became a hometown hero in Chicago and is still incredibly popular in the Windy City, which has prompted the franchise to honor the retired point guard when they take on the New York Knicks on Jan. 4, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic via NBA Central.

It is uncertain how the Bulls intend to honor Rose, one of the most popular players in the team’s history, along with Jordan and Scottie Pippen, but it might not be out of the realm of possibility that they retire his No. 1 jersey.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Bulls brass handles this situation while paying homage to a player who helped resurrect the struggling franchise in the post-Jordan era.
