After years of being opponents, Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving are now teammates.
But even through all their on-court battles, Davis and Irving have remained friends.
In fact, they have talked about playing together before, and Davis is excited to finally suit up with his long-time pal.
Speaking with The Athletic, Davis opened up about being Irving’s teammate.
“I’m very excited. Me and (Kyrie) talked about this I think in 2018 when I asked for a trade from New Orleans. He was in Boston at the time. He ended up leaving and going to Brooklyn. But we have wanted to play alongside each other for a very long time. Now we have an opportunity to do so,” Davis said, via NBACentral.

Back in 2018, Davis had all the options in the world when it came to where he would play next.
After such an explosive start to his career with the New Orleans Pelicans, plenty of teams wanted Davis.
He apparently spoke with Irving and the two liked the idea of being on the same team, but it wasn’t meant to be.
In the end, Davis chose to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, where he became an NBA champion and a cornerstone of that franchise.
But now Davis is in Dallas with Irving, who has become the leader of the Mavericks after the departure of Luka Doncic.
It is a perfect opportunity for both Davis and Irving to prove things.
Davis can confirm that he is a pivotal big man even when he’s not on the court with LeBron James.
And Irving can take over control, carrying more ball-handling and play-making responsibilities.
They already have a friendship, but can Davis and Irving create a productive and successful working relationship too?
